Find Your Class
Whether you are a five-year-old stepping into dance for the first time, or an adult returning to a lifelong passion — there is a place for you at Nritya Traditions. All programs are taught by Mrs. Neha Patel with a balance of classical discipline and genuine warmth.
Elementary Phase
Levels 1, 2 & 3
Students are taught the basic building blocks of Bharatanatyam. The level teaches simple series of footwork at various speeds as well as mudras — various hand gestures and postures. At these beginner levels, students also start to develop a rhythm sense by learning to dance on various musical pieces.
Intermediate Level
Levels 4 & 5
As students master and continue learning complex series of adavus (steps), they are introduced to items such as Kautvam, Millari, and Pushpanjali. Learning these items requires students to use combinations of different steps at various speeds. Allaripu — an important dance piece — is also taught at this level, as students exhibit their mastery over the execution of complex steps and postures.
Advanced Level
Levels 6 & up
Students are introduced to the concept of using and controlling facial expressions to deepen the storytelling aspect of the dance. Students increase their stamina, strength, and agility by practicing complex dance items.
Arrangetram
Solo Debut
At the end of advanced level training, students are evaluated to see if they are ready for their Arrangetram. Arrangetram — meaning "ascend on stage" — is when a student debuts a complete Bharatanatyam margam on stage. The instructor presents her student to a wider audience on an auspicious day in the presence of critics, artists, dance patrons, and well-wishers. This formal performance takes place only when a student has acquired an acceptable repertoire of dance items. An Arrangetram is a great milestone and accomplishment in a dancer's career.
